Alumni Give Back to St. Louis
April 05, 2016

City Academy alumni are dedicated to giving back to the community that has given them so much. Even after graduating from City Academy, the majority of our alumni realize the impact that the school has made on them and continue to come back to volunteer. In fact, a group of about a dozen alumni in middle school and high school have recently formed the City Academy Alumni Committee in order to give back not only to City Academy but also the St. Louis community.

For many students, spring break is a time to relax, go on vacation, and forget about school. However, instead of spending spring break focusing on themselves, many of our alumni decided to focus on the community during their spring break. On March 24, 2016, our Alumni Committee gave up a day of their spring break to volunteer at American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in St. Louis. Hope Lodge provides free housing to cancer patients while receiving treatment in St. Louis. In order to help the staff at Hope Lodge and give back to the community, our Alumni Committee prepared meals for the 30 individuals and their families who were staying at Hope Lodge at this time. They had a great time cooking pasta, talking with patients, and welcoming Hope Lodge’s guests to St. Louis!

Our alumni are proud to have the opportunity to serve and give back to the community that has helped transform their lives. The Alumni Committee is already planning their next service project and will participate as City Academy alumni in a community walk. These students may be proud to give back, but we are so proud of their accomplishments and their willingness to serve the St. Louis community! Our mission of transforming the community is being lived out each day through our alumni.
