Friends Committee Organize Successful Trivia Night!
March 17, 2016

Are you smarter than a fifth grader? Over 300 people attended City Academy’s fourth annual Trivia Night on March 5, 2016, to test their smarts and prove their knowledge! Attendees enjoyed a fun night of trivia along with great food and drinks, fabulous silent auction items, and a whole lot of smiles and laughter. All proceeds from the event go directly to our Scholarship Program, providing scholarships to 100% of students. By the end of the night, over $30,000 was raised for our young scholars!

This successful event is organized and coordinated each year by our wonderful Friends Committee, a group of young professionals dedicated to transforming the St. Louis community through education.  Each friend participates in committee events throughout the year and all play a role in helping to execute Trivia Night. The Friends Committee, a group of 22 individuals, is dedicated to cultivating new relationships with individuals and organizations throughout the St. Louis community. Through these relationships, the committee hopes to cultivate new friends and donors of City Academy.

Friends Committee Co-Chairs, Lacey Abell and Peter Swank, have been a long-term member of the Friends Committee. After first attending City Academy’s bi-annual Buddy Morning, Lacey saw the difference that school was making in the community and wanted to become more involved.  “I was so impressed with the students and the mission of the school,” says Lacey. “Becoming involved with the Friends Committee was an easy next step after attending Buddy Morning. A few years ago, the committee decided to organize Trivia Night as a fundraiser for the school. And for me, the most rewarding factor of supporting Trivia Night and serving on the Friends Committee is that I know my efforts aren’t in vain. I know that each event we host will benefit a child who is working towards a better future. And their future, is our future.”

Peter also chose to become involved on the Friends Committee and City Academy because he is “passionate about improving St. Louis. Access to quality education is the foundation for any city’s success, and City Academy works to ensure that more St. Louis children have the opportunity to learn the skills required to become successful. City Academy is developing the future leaders of our city and their impact will be very powerful.”
