Sydney Williams is a gentle leader with a fierce determination for success. As a student at City Academy, Sydney’s determination to succeed was apparent. After graduating in 2016, she went on to attend John Burroughs School (JBS) and continued to thrive. Her hard work and service to others have made her an excellent choice for this year’s Brightman Award.

Sydney is an excellent student, working hard to earn a 3.85 GPA alongside her busy schedule of extracurricular activities and part-time work. She is committed to serving her community and actively involved with Aim High St. Louis, volunteering over 250 hours to date. As part of the City Academy community for the past 12 years, she is always the first to step up and offer her help. She has tutored younger alumni in need of academic support, helped build and stain chairs for our outdoor spaces, and helped build our hydroponic pond. At JBS she is a member of the African American Affinity group and an athlete, running track year-round.

Despite everything she packs into her schedule, she is continually recognized for her hard work and academic achievements. As a sophomore she received Cum Laude honors on the National Latin Exam, and as a senior she received an Honorable Mention Scholastic Art Award. She was also the recipient of the SistaKeeper Scholarship this academic year.

Sydney is more than ready for a bright future, receiving acceptances to multiple colleges and universities, including the highly competitive physical therapy program at St. Louis University. She is still considering the next step in her educational journey and we look forward to watching her succeed no matter where it takes her.
