Accomplishment Report: Leading the Way
March 24, 2026

Student Council at City Academy provides students with a meaningful opportunity to step into leadership, represent their peers, and help shape school life. Each spring, students in upper elementary grades are invited to apply for Student Council, and interest continues to grow. Last year, 45 out of 78 students in grades 3–5 applied. From that group, 15 students were selected to form the council for the 2025-2026 school year.

Before the school year officially began, Student Council members participated in a two-day orientation on campus. Guided by advisors Ms. Early, Social Studies Teacher, and Mrs. Fennoy, 5th Grade Humanities Teacher, students focused on team-building, collaboration, and brainstorming ways to positively impact City Academy. Council members take their leadership seriously, welcoming families in the lobby, leading the school pledge each Wednesday, and regularly connecting with classmates to share updates and gather feedback during class meetings.

This fall, 6th grade Student Council members ran for officer positions, campaigning by creating posters and delivering speeches to the student body, sharing their ideas and goals for the school. After a week of campaigning, the entire student body and staff cast their votes, and election results were announced with excitement. The elected officers included Albert Moore as President, Amir Farmer as Vice President, Arlo Hollenkamp as Secretary, and Bryce McClendon as Treasurer.

Four months into his presidency, we caught up with Student Council President Albert. Known for his respectful nature and sense of humor, Albert has embraced his role with enthusiasm and humility. He shared that one of his priorities has been turning campaign promises into action.

One major initiative from Albert’s campaign was advocating for a new outdoor basketball hoop. With only one hoop currently available, it can be challenging for students to play full games during gym class or recess. Albert worked closely with fellow council members to discuss fundraising ideas, establish guidelines for use, and meet with Facilities Manager Larry Reese. In December, Student Council hosted a hot cocoa bar fundraiser, with tips supporting the purchase of the new hoop.

Albert also emphasized the importance of collaboration within the council, highlighting Treasurer Bryce McClendon and the group’s ability to hold one another accountable. Beyond fundraising efforts, Student Council has organized monthly Dress Down Days and spirit weeks to boost school morale and strengthen community connections.

Reflecting on his experience as President, Albert shared that leadership means listening, working together, and doing what’s best for the entire school. His thoughtful approach reflects the purpose of Student Council at City Academy: empowering students to lead with responsibility, collaboration, and care for their community.
