Donation to benefit school’s STEAM Program
City Academy announced today it received a grant for $40,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will be used towards building a better future by providing City Academy students with opportunities to understand how classroom learning will translate into real world situations and opportunities to explore professional careers in STEAM fields.
“At City Academy, we emphasize the tangible knowledge and intangible skills gained by STEAM education,” said Jarrett Young, Head of School at City Academy. “Our program promotes STEAM as an engaging and sustainable future career path, and a number of City Academy graduates have gone on to pursue STEAM fields. Many of these alumni cite their City Academy STEAM experience as inspiration for future career paths, and this grant from Bayer Fund will help bring these dreams to life.”
In Bayer Fund and City Academy’s mutual goal to see the communities we serve flourish, this grant from Bayer Fund will support STEAM learning that is infused in classrooms across City Academy’s campus. The curriculum is built on experiential learning that helps students connect classroom learning with its real-world application. City Academy scholars utilize learned STEAM principles such as problem solving, critical thinking, and hypothesis formation in their other subjects. Bayer Fund has supported City Academy since the founding of its STEAM program in 2008, providing funds to support teacher retention and professional development, equipment and supplies, and field trips.
Bayer Fund supports Bayer’s, one of the country’s largest life-sciences companies, mission of Health for all, Hunger for none by working with organizations and non-profits, like City Academy, to deliver on shared goals and overall strengthen our country’s communities.
“Bayer Fund is proud to support City Academy and their work to make real, sustainable impacts in their community,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “Programs like City Academy’s STEAM Initiative inspire future generations for careers in the high-demand STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field, and we’re proud to provide our support.”
In 2023, Bayer Fund awarded more than $12.1 million to over 2,300 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in Food and Nutrition, STEM Education and Health & Wellness. Since 2017, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received nearly $90 million from Bayer Fund.
