As part of our 2024 Annual Luncheon, City Academy guests, 5th and 6th grade students, and faculty and staff worked together at their tables to form a book character based on a watch. Groups had 10 minutes to write an introduction for their character after thinking through questions such as: What is my character’s occupation? How do they speak? How do they treat others? What is important to your character? What type of novel are they in? Here is what a few of our tables (cabins) came up with!

Hi, I’m Jim and I’m 24 years old. I spend my time working with wood. I’m kind, resourceful, artistic and an introvert. I will only say nice and kind things, but I can be serious. As I’m working, all I can think about is what my next craft will be. I will treat others how I want to be treated so I have empathy. I am amazing when it comes to working with my hands, but struggle with talking to others. I care deeply about my family and I’m most proud of my crafts.

Hi, I’m Mr. Arlon. I am 62 years old. I am in a novel called Father Time. It is a very fun and interesting mystery. I am a short, athletic guy who works at a watch shop. I was born and raised in Minnesota so I speak like a Minnesotan. I love to make a difference in the world by styling and shoveling driveways. I love to treat others with kindness because I think a little kindness goes a long way. My strengths are being a gifted watch maker and a very nice neighbor. I feel the most important thing to me is family and kindness.

Estelle. That is my name. I am 60 years old. My job is a detective and I love mysteries. I am a detective because of my observations and precision. I am known for my quick thinking and how I see through people. I ask a lot of questions, but I watch better than I speak. I am cool, calm, and collected. I am kind and respectful. The book I would be featured in is called Mystery at City Academy.

Hi, I’m Mike. I’m 30 years old and live an active lifestyle. The name of the book that I’m the main character in is Mike on the Run. This is the name of my story because I like to run, I am very active, and have a busy lifestyle. My life consists of spending time with my dog, friends, being active outside, and working my busy job in IT. I’m very proud and happy with who I am. I also pride myself on being an athlete and even ride my bike to work every day.

The name of our character is Adele. She is 40 years old and is working as a business consultant. She has a posh accent and was doing pageants as a teenager. Adele is taller, assertive, and respectful. When she was 20, she traveled overseas to New York to work as a consultant. She cares very deeply about her family.

Rose is 11 years old and is in the 5th or 6th grade. Her favorite color is pink. Her book would be The Day in the Life of a Middle Schooler, which is a realistic fiction book about Rose’s journey trying to fit in. She follows TikTok dances and loves Chanel. She is laid back and very quiet. She is fashionable and speaks with an accent. She har dark brown, curly, mid length hair and brown eyes. She had dark skin. She is kind to others.

Hi, I’m Abigail. I’m 27 and a model that is fit. I travel to many places. I’m from Los Angeles and every time I wake up I go on a morning run. This has become my morning routine. In the past, me and my family were homeless and my aunt took care of me in a cafe. I’m very proud of how much I’ve grown from then. I’m very strong in academics and have other fun interests.

The name of my character is Ratifa. She is a 28-year-old female. Ratifa uses her watch the shapeshift into a rat. She is from New York. She inherited the watch from her mom. Ratifa is a teacher that has a shapeshifting ability. At night she fights for the rat community. She wants people to know that rats are AWESOME! Ratifa has a Brooklyn accent. She is obsessed with cheese and gets easily distracted by it.

My name is Edna and I am 60 years old. I am a retired teacher and now run the bingo table. I’m very good at math, bingo, and crossword puzzles. I have cats, so I always keep a lint roller in my purse. I also have one turtle and I’m very anti plastic straws because of the damage they can cause to turtles. I have a raspy voice from years of teaching. I like to go antique shopping and I used to know a lot about pop culture and cinema.

Hi, I’m Tiana. My birthday is Valentine’s Day and I just turned seven. I love LOL Dolls and I have a dog named Sparkie. I go to City Academy as a student. I think I am very social and smart. I speak loudly and with confidence. I feel like I am kind and empathetic. Others think I am self absorbed. I love to write and play pickleball. I am not very good at listening. I am most proud of my writing.
